An early Victorian silver snuff box by Nathaniel Mills, of scroll edge rectangular form and engraved throughout with flowers and scrolling foliage, enclosing a dedication inscription to the hinged lid reading, 'Presented by The Duke of Leeds to Mr John Dunn 1854', and opening to a silver-gilt interior. Hallmarked Birmingham 1841. Length 3.25 (8.5cm), gross weight 3.61 ozt (112.3 grams). Appears in good overall condition, displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing. However the engraved decoration has retained much of its brightness. Scratches and marks more visible to the plainer surface of the cartouche. Some heavier wear and slight bruises around the edge and corners. Slight crack in the metal around the hinge on one end. However hinged lid in good working order and closes securely. Rises a little with very slight overhang on one side. Gilding to interior bright and clean. Hallmarks clear and legible.
