A George III silver cream jug by Peter & Ann Bateman, of helmet shape with reeded rim above stippled borders and engraved floral swags enclosing a vacant oval cartouche, with loop handle and raised on a square pedestal foot. Hallmarked London 1792. Height including handle 5.75 (14.5cm), weight 3.61 ozt (112.4 grams). Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. There looks to be a repair to the handle, on the rounded section near to the top and reeded rim. A seam line also visible. The engraved decoration has lost some of its brightness and crispness. The rim of the lip feels a little rough in places and there are some minor edge nicks or nibbles. Gilt-wash interior a little faded towards the lip. Hallmarks located to the underside of foot, in the corners, and these all clearly legible. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
