An Edwardian silver mounted and tortoiseshell veneer tea caddy of oval form, the plain silver rim mount to a slightly domed and hinged lid with gadroon edge detail and ribbed cone finial, opening to a wood interior and the whole raised on four bun feet. Hallmarked Charles Westwood & Sons, Birmingham 1908. Length 4.5 (11.5 cm), height including finial 4.75 (12 cm). Overall fair condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches and some tarnishing to silver mounts.Silver mount around rim is missing all fixing pins and can be easily removed. Hinged lid does not close flush and rises slightly leaving a fairly large gap. Surface rubbing and some loss of definition to gadroon edge and there appears to be a small solder repair near to hinge. Some heavier contact marks and nicks to base of feet and slight knocks, one foot at a different angle. A few slight cracks in the tortoiseshell veneer, to the front of the caddy just below the rim mount.Material to underside of base torn and faded with significant losses.Missing linerMaker's mark a little rubbed around edges but otherwise hallmarks clear and legible including further date letter and lion passant to lid.
