A George III silver nutmeg grater, the canted rectangular form decorated with foliate pattern borders and hinge opening to reveal a hinged metal grater. Hallmarked Joseph Willmore, Birmingham 1809. Length 4cm, gross weight 27.7 grams. Appears in fairly good overall condition considering the age. Displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing with some slightly heavier wear and minor nicks around edges. Some surface rubbing and wear to areas of decorated borders causing some slight loss of detail. There is an area of heavier rubbing to one corner with significant loss to the decoration. Hinged lid in good working order although it does not close completely flush and rises slightly on one side. One hinge pin is slightly protruding and the other appears ground down. Hinged grater also appears in good working order and closes securely. Displaying some rust and distortion around holes.Interior with residues of polish and dirt. Likely once gilded but now faded a little. Hallmarks located to base and reverse of lid, these heavily rubbed in places but all still legible. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
