A George V silver mounted and tortoiseshell box, of oval form with serpentine ends and raised on four slender cabriole legs, the hinged lid with inset tortoiseshell panel inlaid with trailing flowers and scrolling foliage enclosing a central flower filled vase, and opening to a velvet lined interior. Hallmarked Edward Souter Barnsley, Birmingham 1918. Maximum length 5.25 (13.3cm). Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches in keeping with the age and use. Silver with some tarnishing and residues of polish. Also a few surface dints, bruises and edge nicks. Hinged lid does not close flush and rises slightly, more so on one side. Damage to one end of the tortoiseshell panel. There is a small loss and the fixing pin is also missing so it is not secure on this side.Slight knocks to cabriole legs but appears to stand firm without a wobble.Velvet interior with dirt marks and faded. Lining to underside also worn.Hallmarks located to rim on the underside with part marks to lid, these rubbed but all legible. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition
