A pair of late 19th century oriental mother of pearl shells, each with applied gilt lacquered decoration depicting peacocks and peahens, mounted upon carved and pierced hardwood stands, each approximately 10.75 (27.5cm) high, together with another similar shell mounted with a carved ivory animalier figure modelled as a rat, (a/f). Gilt shells have wear and losses to decoration, stands have damage and losses. Carved ivory rat has had a repair to front paw, re-glued upon shell base.
