A 1920's silver mounted capstan inkwell, of typical circular flared form, the plain body and hinged cover with banded border, hallmarked Robert Pringle & Sons, London 1924. Together with three glass inkwells with silver covers, comprising a Victorian hobnail cut glass example of spherical form, a further spherical example, frosted with fluted cut body, and an ink pot of squat square form. Height of largest 2 1/4 inches (5.5cm) high. (4). The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with age and use.Capstan inkwell with some small knocks and indentations, hinged cover knocked to one side and does not close flush. Replacement plastic inkwell. Silver covers to other examples with knocks and some pitting. Victorian example heavily tarnished. Glass bodies all with scratches, and small nicks and losses.Two examples with unmarked covers, each test around 87% to 89%.Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns. Fellows does not guarantee the standard of silver, gold or platinum unless an item is hallmarked.
