A pair of mid-Victorian silver tureens and covers, each of circular pedestal form with wide beaded and ovolo moulded rim above openwork sides with four ram's head mounted supports enclosing a plain silver bowl liner, with fluted lower body and raised on a short knopped stem to a domed circular foot with gadroon style decoration, the removable lid embossed with stylised foliate borders and surmounted with the head of a mythological Greek warrior. Hallmarked Robert Harper, London 1868, also with French import marks. Height including finial 7 inches (18 cm), diameter of bowl 6 1/4 inches (16 cm), gross weight 58 ozt (1805 grams). Both appear in fairly good overall condition. With some tarnishing throughout and would benefit from a clean and polish. Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some heavier contact and scratched marks and some little dints and nicks are visible to the plain bowl liners, mainly the interiors. They are both also a little misshapen around the rims with some edge knocks and dints, more so on one example. Some minor edge knocks to rim of one tureen lid. Some light rubbing and wear to decoration but overall in good condition, appearing bright and crisp. All parts appear to fit together fairly well. Matching hallmarks to various parts and mostly clear and legible. Also struck with French import and bigorne marks.
