A George III silver teapot, the oval form engraved with twin opposed vacant shield cartouche below floral festoon, with straight sided spout, fruitwood handle and a slightly domed, hinged lid. Hallmarked London 1791, maker possibly Joseph Scammell. Length 10 1/4 inches (26 cm), gross weight 15 ozt (467.3 grams). In very tired and poor condition throughout. Heavily tarnished. Hinged lid very loose, although it does close flush. Damage and repairs around base rim. Further repair at join of spout to main body. Decoration worn and rubbed. Interior surface with flaking and erosion, especially the base. Finial and handle do not match. Finial is loose. Hallmarks located to underside and are clear and legible.
