黄花梨成才缓慢，木材颇佳，纹理精致美丽，适于雕刻之用，与紫檀木、鸡翅木、铁力木并称中国古代四大名木。我国自唐代就已用花梨木制作器物，唐·陈藏器在《本草拾遗》就有“榈木出安南及南海，用作床几，似紫檀而色赤，性坚好”的记载。 此件文具箱以名贵黄花梨为材制作，整作长方体形，每边棱线转角做出弧度，盖、身相接处宽唇沿，底面圈足亦极具特色，足墙较宽，内凹打洼自然形成圈足。白铜构件保存完整，四棱包镶，前贴面叶，后楔合页，两端置环提手。 整器选材精良，黄花梨纹理如流云般华美，包浆均净靓丽，规格较习见的同类器物更为精巧，却不失端庄典雅之姿，是一件独具一格的文房佳器。
