侯一民 1930年生于河北高阳。1946年入国立北平艺专师从于徐悲鸿、吴作人、艾中信等人。1954年至1957年在中央美术学院油画训练班学习。曾任中央美院油画系副主任、壁画系主任、第一副院长，中国壁画学会会长，中国美术家协会常务理事，全国壁画艺术委员会主任，吴作人国际美术基金会理事长。曾获第二届“中国美术奖·终身成就奖”。代表作有《青年地下工作者》、《刘少奇与安源矿工》、《毛主席与安源矿工》。
Hou Yimin was born in Gaoyang, Hebei in 1930. He studied painting at Beijing Art School in 1946 from Xu Beihong, Wu Zuoren, Ai Zhongxin and so forth. Between 1954 and 1957, he studied in the oil painting training class of Central Academy of Fine Arts. Hou served as Deputy Director of Oil Painting Department, Director of Mural Department and Vice President of Central Academy of Fine Arts. He was also a standing council member of China Artists Association, Director of National Mural Art Committee and President of Wu Zuoren International Foundation of Fine Arts. Hou is famous for works like Young Underground Workers, Liu Shaoqi and Miners of Anyuan and Chairman Mao and Miners of Anyuan. He used to be awarded with Life Achievement Award of the Second Chinese Art Award.
