A Chinese famille rose box and cover, late 19th century, the rounded sides rising from a circular foot, painted with dragons chasing a flaming pearl among clouds, against an iron-red ground, six-character Qianlong mark, 18.6cm diameter (2) Provenance: The collection of Major Richmond Keith Molesworth Battye (1905-1958). Major Keith Battye left the army in 1938 and joined the Indian Political Service. He was posted to the North-West Frontier, working in Gilgit and Chitral, where he was called upon to adjudicate between different tribal chiefs in the area, and where he collected Sino-Tibetan items. Condition report: Surface scratches and enamel losses to interior. Rim of box chipped. Rim of cover with frits.
