Yoshu Chikanobu (Hashimoto Chikanobu, 1838-1912), Okushiage, from the series Chiyoda No Ooku (The Inner Chiyoda Palace), Meiji period (1868–1912), dated twenty-seventh year of Meiji (1894), an oban triptych of woodblock prints of a hairstylist working on an aristocratic lady's hair, attendants preparing her kimono to the side, their kimonos decorated with the karazuri embossing technique on the collar, signed Yoshu Chikanobu, published by Fukuda Hatsujiro, 35.6 x 72cm, framed and glazed Chiyoda no ooku (The Inner Chiyoda Palace) depicts the hidden world of the shogun's princess and other women serving him in Edo Castle, engaged in a variety of activities and rituals during a full year.
