Eddy (19th century) HMS Victoria off Portsmouth Harbour Signed l.r., oil on canvas 50 x 70cm, in a maple frame HMS Victoria was the last British wooden first-rate, three-decked ship of the line to be commissioned for sea service. She was armed with 121 guns and measured 260ft in length with a complement of 1000. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas is in plane with good tension. The paint layer is in a stable condition overall. At the centre of the left hand side is an areas of fill which is slightly raised. There are numerous retouchings in the sky and foreground which are well matched to the original. The varnish is matte and even. The frame is in a good condition.
