焚香自不离铜炉，宋代金石学的兴盛，仿古铜器造型的器物众多，南宋赵希鹄《洞天清禄集·古钟鼎彝器辨》：“古以萧艾达神明而不焚香，故无香炉。今所谓香炉，皆以古人宗庙祭器为之。”故而所制之铜炉大多犹有三代鼎彝之遗意。除如本品之鬲式炉，尚有樽式炉、鼎式炉、簋式炉等，端仪肃穆又融文人之雅洁。此炉采青铜礼器鬲之形制，几经改良，合裆为腹，去耳平光，盘口束颈，炉腹圆鼓，三足鼎立，稳重端庄。铜质精纯，入手沉坠。通体光素，其色倾黄，饱满匀亮。包浆圆融，宝光由内而外，光泽熠熠，抚之则润如凝脂。内膛素里，打磨光滑平整。炉底“宣德年制” 四字楷书款，笔意甚浓，看似随意，然法度森然，也可读出造款者之匠心。炉身包浆厚润，保存完好，实属罕见，气韵沉静肃穆，乃文人逸品。
