此玉蝉具有典型的汉代风格，周身布满红沁。玉蝉呈中间厚、两边薄的斜坡状，双目凸出，嘴角分明，线条纤秀，尖端锋芒锐利，边缘如刀切。翼中线两边以推磨技法形成的中线自然挺直，被称作阳纹线，是汉代蝉纹最精致之处，为经典的“汉八刀”技法琢成。《史记》中记载：“饮而不食，蜕于浊秽，以浮游尘埃之外，不获世之滋垢。”人们把具有三态变化的蝉虫，寓为生命获得重生。
