此玉花插以高浮雕、镂雕等工艺琢成，以松竹梅为表现题材。两根不同高度的竹子横切形成花插的口，其下雕饰山石、松树、梅花等，竹叶片片凌厉，梅枝遒劲，花朵或绽放，或含苞待放，松树老道苍劲。整体意象以写实手法刻画，既丰富又准确，充满勃勃生机，体现出刻工对植物题材良好的把控能力。玉质致密，具有留有褐黄皮色，自然讨巧。松竹梅，合称“岁寒三友”。这三种植物是中国传统文化中高尚人格的象征，也借以比喻忠贞的友谊。
