AN ENAMMELLED SILVER BOX WITH THE NASRID MOTTOLUCKNOW (AND POSSIBLY THEREAFTER GRENADA), LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY The lid bears the Nasrid Motto: Wa la ghalib ila Ala , "There is no conqueror but God". 1 3/8 x 4 3/4 x 2 1/2 in. (3.5 x 12 x 6.4 cm) This Lucknow box has an unusual lid, bearing the Nasrid Motto and eight-pointed star motif, which are usually found in the Islamic material culture of Spain and North Africa. It is possible, therefore, that the box was either made to order in Lucknow referring to an image obtained in Grenada, or more likely it was dispatched to Grenada with an unembellished lid, where it was then finished. Another enameled silver box was sold at Christie's, New York, 25 October 2022, lot 1104. Provenance: Christie's, London, 11 October 1988, lot 234 Private Virginia Collection
