An impressive 19th century Chinese antique sideboard. Traditionally constructed with mortise-and-tenon joinery, this coffer using crossover hardware was designed for securing its contents. This type of hardware is notmon and mostly used in earlier times for securing very specials valuables. Hasp bars crossover the sides of the drawers to be locked to the cabinet frame. The meatal work is significant not only as security but decoration. All hand hammered all original. Burst style medallions layered large to small adorn the center post and are incorporated into the back plates for drawer handles, stops for the hasps, and decorative details to the sides. Also fascinating are the original arrow tipped pins and pointed ribbon handles for the lowerpartments, quite rare to have these in place. Softly carved spandrels to the sides, with a worn lacquer finish having a spectacular patina to the Elm wood. A very important piece that had a very specific and special purpose. Excellent storage with 4 drawers with lower shelfedpartments. In very good condition. Shanxi, China circa 1800. A very special Sideboard that will make a beautiful statement while serving generations now and toe.
