An antique 19th century Japanese Meiji period two piece tansu chest in red lacquer and akamatsu wood with hand forged iron hardware and applied brass “Tsuru-Kame” decoration depicting a crane and tortoise. These symbols are considered among the luckiest because cranes are known to mate faithfully for life and turtles are long lived.Overall measures 46" high, 43" wide, 17" deep. Each cabinet is 23" high.
