此茶叶罐以整块鸡翅木为材，老鸡翅木实为鸂鶒木，多产自东南亚，其肌理致密，紫褐色深浅相间。剖面倾斜纤细成纹，犹如鸂鶒的羽毛，参差闪耀，与时下多产自非洲的所为新鸡翅木不可同日而语。
据曹昭《格古要论》记载：“鸂鶒木出西番，其木一半紫褐色，内有蟹爪纹，一半纯黑色，如乌木。有距者价高。西番作骆驼鼻中绞子，不染肥腻。常见有做刀靶，不见其大者。”。
拍品整作圆柱形，盝顶式盖，顶面微弧近平，盖、身子母口相合，玉环式圈足，工艺佳美。内置嵌盖，密封效果良好，可谓收茶、藏茶之利器，弥足珍贵。
