料器最早由西域地区传入中国。《魏书·大月氏传》载：“其国人商贩京师，自云能铸石为五色琉璃。…… 即成，光泽乃美于西方来者，自此，中国琉璃遂贱，人不复珍之。”料器制作在雍正、乾隆两朝工艺达到巅峰。
本器以透明绿料为材，微泛宝蓝光泽，其色盈盈，彩料纯美，通透无暇，为料器当中的名贵之品，若如本器之品质者，亦是寥寥可数，殊可珍也。
带板整作长方圆角形，正面以减地浮雕之法饰双螭龙头尾相对，方头宽吻，双目圆凸，如意鼻饱满，身姿矫健，花尾颀长柔美，口衔灵芝，翻腾跃动，可寓“灵仙祝寿”之意。整器雅致之中又见华丽浪漫，具有典型的乾隆宫廷艺术风格。
