|紫檀木砚，呈正方形，配有砚盖，契合紧密。砚盖上镶嵌白玉配饰，马呈蹲伏状，刻画一只灵猴伏于马背，为“马上封侯”传统题材，寓意吉祥。用于镶嵌的玉饰雕琢风格朴拙，具有明代风格。开启砚盖，内部砚堂平整。整器皮色深黑，包浆醇厚。木砚由于轻便小巧，通常用于随身携带，以便随时使用，在清代曾风行一时。
