|砚身与盖由整块澄泥一分为二制成，呈黄赭色，梯形，砚堂平展略有下凹，砚首深挖成墨池。砚盖篆文阴刻“石函”二字，砚身与盖扣合后，左侧可合文为“发我玄光，助我灵笔。传百十世，寿永月日。”落“宦光”款。砚底部做成井字状，井字中部下凹成一半圆状，当为仿唐宋古砚形制，整器造型古朴。原配锦袋、木砚匣。|赵宦光（1559年~1625年），字凡夫，一字水臣，号广平，太仓人，国学生。是宋太宗赵炅第八子元俨之后，宋王室南渡，留下一脉在吴郡太仓，便有了晚明时期吴郡充满人文色彩的赵氏一族。精通文字学，工书，在篆书中掺入草书笔意，篆书堪称一绝，志趣不凡，因此而有“高士”之称，开“草篆”先河。
