百宝嵌是在器物上镶嵌多种珍贵材料，达到突出构图主题和强化装饰效果的目的。相传为明代嘉靖年间扬州周翥所创，故又名“周制”。此件盖盒以黄花梨而制，平面长方，顶面以百宝嵌装饰。盖面平整，边缘起坡，四棱榫接，盖缘和器缘起线，以子母口套合。平底，底面打洼，呈矮圈足。顶面以螺钿、青金石、茜色骨、玛瑙等多种材料随类赋彩，拼合镶嵌成雉鸟登枝之画面，梢头花朵姿态各异，竞相绽放，绿叶捲合摇摆，曼妙衬托。一长尾雉鸟伫立枝头，转头顾盼。两爪抓握，双翼合拢，长尾自然下垂。整体构图自然，配色明丽，与素雅的黄花梨木色互为映衬，更显华美精緻。
