Rare Demountable Armchair Pierre JEANNERET (1896-1967) [Model: PJ-SI-07-A] An extremely rare and important Pierre Jeanneret teak armchair (Fauteuil En Teck), also known as ‘Demountable Knock Down Chair’, from the city of Chandigarh, India. This low armchairs can be dismantled and are made of solid teak and seat hung by iron chains. Braided cane work and cotton cords, slightly inclined backrest with cotton corded back supports with a single circular support stretcher to the middle, hand braided cane work to the seat on a solid teak frame, suspended by chains to the sides. The flat profiled armrests fixed to the backrest by screws and nuts. The horizontal and flat profiled legs connected by two circular crosspiece stretchers to the base. This chair and the following lot are probably the only matching pair available anywhere in the world at this time and worthy to be part of some finest chair collection. Pierre Jeanneret only made a very few of these chairs and they were used personally by himself and his colleagues. REFERENCE - Similar examples of this model are held in the City Museum in Chandigarh, India, sector 10 - One similar model in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
