砚屏始于宋，南宋赵希鹄《洞天清录•砚屏辨》云：“古有砚屏，或铭砚，多镌于砚之底与侧，自东坡山谷始作砚屏，既勒铭于砚，又刻于屏以表而出之。”而至明清时期，砚屏由早期遮光挡风之功用，逐步强化。 此件清代中期的砚屏，作单面屏风样式，花卉形站牙，底墩、屏框錾花精刻缠枝莲纹，绦环板、披水牙铸修缠枝莲纹，屏心亦以镂空的缠枝莲纹为边饰，中心以凝白如脂的白瓦子镶嵌，镂雕缠枝莲纹，福寿连绵之意不言而喻。整器集合铸造、鎏金、镂空、浮雕、錾花、镶嵌等诸多工艺于一身，富丽堂皇的鎏金与白玉相映成辉，高贵典雅，宫廷气息难掩。
