Adolphe Monticelli (French, 1824-1886) A group of figures by a waterfall in a forest glade signed 'A Monticelli' l.r., oil on canvas 81 x 65cm, unframed A slightly larger painting of the same composition by Monticelli was sold in May 2015 by Eric Pillon Encheres, Versailles. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is stiff and the picture is in plane. There are localised areas of flaking and loss although the paint layer appears stable overall. There are several scuffs and scratches in the surface of the paint with losses. The varnish is thick, glossy and yellowed with a layer of surface dirt present.
