An extraordinary Louis XV-style rosewood marquetry and gilt-bronze writing table and cartonnier, c.1880, French, surmounted by a gilt-bronze putto and a cockerel over a clock with an enamel dial inscribed 'Brindeau A Paris', this over a bombé-shaped cartonnier with eight leather-fronted drawers, the base having a frieze drawer with a leather inset writing surface, a fold-down front and two small drawers on scrolled supports, the whole inlaid with scrolling, flowering foliage and with ornate gilt-bronze mounts to all sides, 85cm wide 82cm deep 210cm high Condition report: Old splits repaired below bronze putti. Minot lifting to crossbanding. Overall good patina and finish. An impressive and decorative piece.
