说明：奇木山子其作为文玩的历史，要晚于石山，但至少在北宋年间，木山子已是文人士大夫阶层锺爱之雅物，是为文房厅堂间绝尘妙设，据《宋史·礼志十六》载：“大中祥符，六年七月二十九日，诏辅臣观粟于后苑御山子。”明代袁宏道在《饮徐参议园亭》亦有诗曰：“药栏斜布置，山子幻生成。”《儒林外史》第四十回：“三间楠木厅，一个大院落，堆满了太湖石的山子。”此件木山子蜿蜒耸立，表面褶皱曲折，峭拔嶙岣，峰峦富于变化，断面利落，毫无滞感，孔洞互贯，如峭壁中间又有山岬、洞窟，节理交错，有石山“瘦、漏、透、皱”之品，包浆满覆，整体观之，结构谨严又不乏变化，具大山大川气势。备注：原配红木底座
