Jacob More. Jacob More learnt to painting in his home town of Edinburgh. His greatest teacher and role model was the French master Claude Lorrain. More moved to Rome in 1773, where Jakob Philipp Hackert had settled just four years previously. There is said to have been a certain rivalry between the two artists. Goethe visited More in his studio in 1787 and was impressed by his works. More was highly respected among the other British artists in Rome and he also sent his works from the city to the exhibitions of the Royal Academy in London. One of his main patrons was Prince Borghese, and More even designed a landscape garden in the Scottish style for the prince's villa. Jacob More Die Villa des Maecenas und die Wasserfälle von Tivoli Aquarell auf Papier. 50,5 x 71 cm. Gerahmt. Provenienz Christie´s London, 25.05.2007, Lot 1. - Skandinavische Privatsammlung. Ausstellungen The Fine Art Society, London, Oktober 1977. Verso bezeichnet: Maecenas Villa at Tivoli. Jacob More. Jacob More erlernte die Malerei in seiner Heimatstadt Edinburgh.
