上师是指在某个领域中，具备深厚知识和经验，可以指导信众方向的人，在西藏艺术里上师像是一个重要的题材。此像身穿僧衣僧裙，外披袒右肩式袈裟，右手持佛子，左手结说法印。禅宗佛教中以拂子作为庄严具，住持或法师执拂子上堂为大众说法，即所谓"秉拂"，因此，拂尘是说法的表征。此尊上师明显是在讲经说法。宽大的僧袍自然垂落与迦坐上，其僧衣垂坠处，做工厚重却不失自然飘折。整体造型颇有稚拙古朴之趣。
