IRON SWORD FRAGMENT WITH JADE GUARD, HAN DYN., a crouching zoomorphic figure is carved in high-relief on the jade sword guard. The beast’s double-tufted tail sweeps down between splayed rear feet, then flows to the edge of the fitting. Strong shoulders and haunches give the impression of a formidable predator. The rich brown of the semi-precious stone is a perfect compliment to the warm brown and orange of the iron sword fragment.
