本品以带眼端石雕造，色黝黑而凝润。整作天然竹节样式，干粗苍劲，风气高古。砚背覆手平滑，竹节共三段，上段雕知足常乐图，“蜘蛛”谐音“知足”，砚池深凹，砚堂一侧带石眼。
此竹节式砚设计精妙，充分表现了石材之美，取意高雅，文峰盎然，使人赞叹清人鉴赏之品位，极为难得。作者以竹之形象为刻画对象，足见作者之巧思，寄情怀于私物之心。
