A green glazed lotus flower water dropper dishGuangxu period, ca. 1908, China, Provenance: Property of a Dutch noble family.- acquired at A. van der Meer, Amsterdam, 1991, A Marked on the stem “34th year Guangxu” (1908), the full text on the stem translates as 'Remembrance Cup of the Autumn Harvest, near Taihu in Anhui in the 34th year of Guangxu'. That is the same year in which both the Guangxu Emperor and the Empress Dowager Cixi died. This type of water dropper first appeared during the Song dynasty, then also used as ‘sucking cups’ or ‘nose drinking cups’, then became fashionable again for a short while during the Kangxi period and again during the Guangxu period.L 16 cm, two chips on the edge which have been camouflaged. No other damage or restoration noted.
