A pair of Qianjiang round seal paste boxes, Late Qing or early Republic period (ca. 1900-30), China, D 11 cm and 6.7 cm, The larger box very finely decorated with two quails and flowering chrysanthum, symbolizing ‘an ju le ye (live and work in peace)’ . Marked on the base with a red four character mark that says ‘Hall for Cultivating Harmony’. The smaller box with a bird on a flowering branch and marked with a printed red seal mark. This smaller box has red paste on the inside with seal impressions. The large box with a tiny chip on inside rim (not visible when lid is in place). No other chips, no cracks or hairlines and no restoration.
