壶以朱泥为胎，养润甚佳，表面莹润斑斓。壶腹盈鼓，曲线张弛有力，蕴含神采于内，壶流俊俏，壶把环扣，对应成势。整器造型简朴，骨肉亭匀，为朱泥光素造型中的佳器，看似素面素心，确显现出匠人纯熟深厚的技艺。
潘壶，一般于盖墙外钤“潘”字款，过去均视为清道光年间广州富商潘仕成所订制的朱泥小壶，近年来研究认为，存世的潘壶年代跨度较大，较早者应为乾隆时期制品。潘壶大小适宜功夫茶道，历来受茶人称许，亦为藏家所重。
潘壶的形制大体可分为三种，壶腹作扁柿形者，称之为「矮潘」；器身稍高，近扁球形称之为「中潘」；器身高，近梨形者，称之为「高潘」。
