Late Period, ca. 700-30 BC. A glazed composition amulet featuring a relief triad of Horus, Isis, and Nepthys. The amulet is rectangular in shape with an integral flat base and a ribbed suspension loop to the upper edge. The triad is depicted holding hands, and each figure is richly detailed with intricate symbols and iconography. Horus was one of the most important gods in ancient Egyptian mythology. He was associated with the sun and the sky and was believed to have been the son of the goddess Isis and the god Osiris. Isis, his mother, was a powerful goddess of magic and fertility and was often depicted nursing her son Horus. Nepthys was the sister of Isis and was also a powerful goddess associated with death and the afterlife. The relief triad of Horus, Isis, and Nepthys on this amulet is particularly significant, as it represents the powerful bond between mother and son, and the important role of sisterhood in ancient Egyptian culture. The figures are depicted holding hands, emphasizing their close relationship and the importance of familial ties. The function of this amulet would have been as a protective talisman, offering the wearer the powerful and benevolent protection of the gods Horus, Isis, and Nepthys. It may have been worn or carried as a personal amulet, or used in ritual contexts to seek the gods' protection and blessings. Tiny, very minor glaze flake on the rear lower left corner, otherwise intact, exc. cond.
