黑财神乃是五方佛之东方金刚不动佛，为利益娑婆众生摆脱穷困的苦恼所做的化现。密宗认为，黑财神是五姓财神中施财立即见效的财神，甚至称他为财神王。
此像尺寸精巧，精铜为材，通体鎏金。黑财神头戴骷髅宝冠，长发上冲，面庞饱满，一面三目，咧口闪舌，相容忿怒，耳挂花珰，宝缯于耳际曲卷飞扬。上身袒露，前披连珠璎珞长链，下着束腰裙，裙边錾刻花卉纹，肘、腕、踝均佩连珠钏。身躯刻画有力，粗体大腹，左手弯曲自然向下，结护法印，右手置于身前持法器，双足于右伸资跣足而立。
