此件作品为作者“幻兽钮”系列之一。钮头“幻兽”不重肌骨、力量刻画，甚至不在鬃毛、尾毛上开丝细刻，而是用类似皴法的线条刻画出一种更为流动的质感，呼应其“幻”。 此钮工艺重心在开相，兽面鼻骨高耸，甚至压在眼位之上，与眉骨连成同一块面。侧面轮廓看来，兽面嘴突出部分略短，但开合度甚大，犹如正在口出人言。表情细致，虽为兽类，更似可通人心。
