清代宫廷中，案上文玩陈设极为讲究，美器必配美座，无论瓷器、玉器、铜器等均配有底座，甚至园林中的小花盆也配有底座。在明清绘画中，特别是宫廷绘画，配有底座的陈设器比比皆是。从存世品看，底座多为木制，以紫檀最为珍贵，故宫博物院编，2016年出版的《器座》一书中，收录了众多精美底座，可作赏鉴。
器座为紫檀木质地，略作长方圆角形，座面平整，木纹清晰，座缘凸起宽弦纹，以起到加固的作用。侧面精雕简化的兽足，圆润鼓凸，呈外撑状，简洁有力，显浑厚沉雄之精气。
