The bag is inspired by Coco Chanel`s original 2.55 Flap Bag design which got its name from its February 1955 debut. The 2.55 changed handbag history, as it was Chanel`s first shoulder-carried bag and created the first time that it was acceptable for women of social status to carry a bag on their shoulders. The bag is crafted of exquisite metallic silver aged calfskin with silver tone hardware trim. It also features Coco Chanel`s Mademoiselle Lock (which is said to have got its name from the fact that Coco Chanel never married) that the original 2.55 Flap Bag had prior to the 1980s introduction of the Double CC lock. The bag has the full chain strap of the original 2.55 as opposed to the modern leather-woven chain straps of the Classic Flaps. The double flaps open to reveal a metallic silver interior with one zipped "love note" pocket on the inside of the flap (it is said that Coco created this pocket as a secret spot to hide her love letters), three slit pockets, and one lipstick pocket. This gorgeous statement bag is a collector`s dream, as it is an incredibly rare piece with a wonderful history.
