BUDDHIST FIGURES IN LANDSCAPEAnonymous, Ming dynasty Hanging scroll, ink and mineral pigments on silk, absent an inscription or seals, a fragment from a largerposition, the outer titleslip inscribed by Tang Hong. 16 1/4 x 13 1/2in (41.5 x 34.2cm) 無款 摹白蓮社圖(局部) 設色絹本 立軸 明代 The fragment shows similarposition as the upper section of the Bailianshe Tu (White Lotus Society) co-painted by Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) and Qiu Ying (1494-1552) after Li Gonglin (1049-1106) in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, guhua002921N000000000. Li Gonglin's original design of theposition should be horizontal, as reflected in the probably 11th-12th century handscroll of the same subject attributed to Zhang Ji in the collection of the Liaoning Museum. It was until the Ming dynasty that theposition was transformed to a vertical version.
