As one of India's most important artists his works span mediums including sculpture- installations, assemblages and paintings. The present lot is from his seminal series, titled Re-Imagining Bapu painted in 1999, inspired by the events in Gandhi's life. It was during the 90s that Dodiya became known for his hyperrealist paintings in which he depicted Gandhi and the Indian middle-class life. It is unsurprising therefore that in 2019, Dodiya was one of the artists representing India at the Venice Biennale, in which he showcased the installation titled 'Broken Branches,' created in 2002 and inspired by the philosophy of Gandhi.
