此件端砚作长方城池样，质地坚润，色泽紫黑，刀法纯熟，朴拙中见精细，颇具意趣。砚开环渠，砚首内凹，气息古雅端庄。砚背及两侧携文，字体线条挺拔流畅。水岩端石制砚，坚密温润，颇为难得。
在中国所产的四大名砚中，尤以端砚最为称着，本品便以端溪佳石精雕而成，线条挺拔流畅，端庄修长，比例恰当，格调高雅，颇为赏心悦目。
