The panels in the present lot can be closely compared with the wall paintings of the hall of the Chehel Sutun in Isfahan and a further wall panel in the courtly room of the palace, painted after 1647, which show young couples seated in landscapes before trees, wearing a mix of European and Persian accoutrements and engaged in leisurely pursuits.
