Aurelio Tolosa began his training with the French painter Justin Simon and was later a disciple of Modest Urgell. He took part in several exhibitions held in Barcelona, competitions and group exhibitions such as the Liceu Exhibition of 1883, where he presented "Un país" ("A Country") and "Una marina" ("A Marina"). He also received an honourable mention at the Nationals of 1901 and 1904. In 1918 he exhibited some of his most important works, including "Primavera" (Spring), "Sol de mañana" (Morning Sun) and "Lavanderas de Cadaqués" (Laundresses of Cadaqués). It is also worth mentioning his participation in the group exhibitions held at the Galeries Layetanes in 1922 and 1927. He was also a member of the Artistic and Literary Society of Catalonia, and was awarded the gold medal and diploma of honour at the International Furniture Exhibition.
