Oil lamp, 19th century. Gilded bronze. Measurements: 71 x 18 x 18 cm. Oil lamp made entirely in bronze, raised on a sogueado shaft and with four mouths. It has a circular moulded base on which a helicoidal shaft rests. From this emerges an intermediate body made up of a smooth shaft and a body of lights. Chains hold the scissors for cutting the candles and the oil container or replenisher. The main fuel used in the oil lamps of the Western nations (from which they originated) was olive oil, although fish extracts, fish oil, nuts, as well as plants and the exudations of crude oil have also been used.
