鼎是我国古代礼乐制度中最重要的器种，亦是国家政权和个人社会等级的典型代表器物，据《公羊传·桓公二年》记载：“礼祭，天子九鼎、诸侯七鼎、大夫五鼎、元士三也。”规定了不同等级用不同数量的鼎，是为“列鼎制度”。
此炉方鼎样式，宽阔沉稳，颇有上古彝器之风范。平口方唇，沿上对铸冲天鋬耳，方斗式腹，四棱出戟，两侧饰双狮首，腹下承接兽首外撇四足，踞地沉稳有力。
腹部四面以弦纹为界，上部为仿古波曲纹，下部主体纹饰以云雷纹作底，饰仿古兽面纹，纹饰线条细韧，刻画精致而不失器物雄浑庄重磅礴之气，神秘威严中透露出明末清初仿古铜器特有的时代气息。
