Property of various owners IN THE STYLE OF RYŪSHŪ SHŪTAKU (MYŌTAKU, 1307-88)Fudō Myōō (Acala) Muromachi period (1333-1568), 14th/15th century A hanging scroll brushed in ink and colors on silk depicting the Buddhist deity Fudō Myōō (The Immovable Wisdom King) standing in a hip-slung pose on top of a rock, a triple-pronged vajra -handled sword in his right hand and a lasso in his left, a halo of flames framing his head and his right leg 40 1/2 x 15 5/8in (102.9 x 39.7cm) For aposition that is similar to the present lot but in the medium of hand-colored woodblock print on paper, see Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number: 1975.268.27.
